Practicum in English is one of the foundational courses for those who are interested in English language teaching. It builds on Teaching Methods and Materials in English, and is a prerequisite course for your six-month internship, which together will help you prepare for your future language teaching career.

The syllabus that is presented below is only a tentative schedule for the spring semester. The exact dates for our school visits will only be confirmed in mid to late February as this is the period when most teachers get their new timetables. In principle, the first half of the semester will cover classroom management, teaching speaking and writing, teaching grammar and vocabulary, assessment, teacher development, and teaching for social responsibility.

The second half of the semester will occur mostly outside of NTU. This will include approximately six school visits and a two to three- week practicum at a junior or senior high school. Throughout the semester we will continue discussing important debates in the field, and reflect on the current landscape of English language teaching in Taiwan.
